Start with your own baseline
There is no universal participation or engagement benchmark that works for every company. Measure active advocates, posts per advocate, incremental reach, tracked clicks, conversions and programme costs against your own historical performance.
Useful questions for the first month
How many invited employees actually share? What proportion of shared content comes from company sources versus employee expertise? Which departments and locations are taking part? Which sources create useful traffic?
From social activity to outcomes
Treat shares, impressions and clicks as stages in a distribution funnel. Where possible, attach campaign tracking to the website visit and the following enquiry or application. Report associations honestly: a post can influence a conversation without being the sole cause.
Use programme case studies carefully
Ripply and Paiger have published results from Vetro, PIE Recruitment and NES Fircroft. They show possible outcomes in specific programmes, not guaranteed results or market averages.
Review in cycles
At 30 days, inspect participation and process friction. At 60 days, look at topic relevance and source quality. At 90 days, compare meaningful traffic and downstream signals against your pre-launch baseline.
Use these principles to build employee-powered distribution that respects your people and demonstrates an outcome.
