Your company already creates enough content.
The distribution is the problem.

B2B teams spend heavily on customer stories, webinars, research, product launches, employer brand and thought leadership. Most of it gets one company-page post, a few employee reshares, then disappears into the archive.

This playbook is a practical system for changing that. It teaches employees how to build a credible presence, then shows Marketing how to turn the content it already owns into relevant employee distribution — without turning people into corporate loudspeakers.

THE RULEMarketing provides the system. Employees keep the voice.

Don't just read the playbook.
Watch it.

The practical LinkedIn fundamentals are easier to learn when you can see them. Use the video series alongside the playbook for profiles, content, personal brand, consistency and the habits that make employee-powered distribution work.

01
Make the profile work

Turn a LinkedIn profile into a credible personal homepage before you worry about reach.

02
Build a useful network

Grow the people around you deliberately, not simply the connection count.

03
Find content worth sharing

Spot useful ideas and company assets that deserve another life through employee networks.

04
Build a personal brand

Create a recognisable point of view without forcing people into a corporate script.

05
Post consistently

Build a sustainable rhythm that keeps employees visible without turning LinkedIn into a second job.

06
Turn learning into distribution

Use the rest of the playbook to connect those individual habits to a repeatable Marketing system.

01

Turn your people into a distribution network.

A company page is one audience. Your employees sit inside dozens or hundreds of overlapping customer, prospect, partner, candidate and industry networks. The opportunity is not to make everyone repeat the corporate post. It is to help the right people add credible context to the right content.

01People add context.

An employee can explain why a story matters from their own seat in the business.

02Relevance beats broadcast.

A product update belongs with different people than an employer-brand story or customer case study.

03Consistency compounds.

One viral post is not the goal. A useful presence built over months is.

MARKETING QUESTIONIf your company published nothing tomorrow, how many employees would still have something useful to say?
02

Build a profile worth sending traffic to.

Treat the LinkedIn profile as a personal homepage. Before you optimise posting frequency, make sure it tells visitors who this person helps, what they know and what they care about.

PHOTOLook recognisable.

Use a clear, current image that makes the person easy to identify.

HEADLINESay more than a title.

Use the headline to explain the problems, market or audience the person works with.

BANNERUse the space.

Reinforce expertise, company context or a current campaign without making it an advert.

ABOUTWrite like a human.

Explain what they do, what they have learned and why someone should connect.

FEATUREDShow the proof.

Pin the posts, customer stories, talks or resources that best represent them.

CONTACTMake the next step easy.

Keep links and contact information useful and current.

03

Build the right network, not just a bigger one.

A strong network combines reach with relevance. Help employees steadily connect with the customers, prospects, peers, partners, candidates and experts they genuinely want to know. Then treat engagement as relationship-building, not a distribution hack.

DO MORE OF THIS
  • Connect after useful meetings and conversations.
  • Follow and engage with people in the employee's real market.
  • Write thoughtful comments that add information or experience.
  • Use DMs to continue genuine conversations, not launch automated pitches.
DO LESS OF THIS
  • Bulk connection requests with no relevance.
  • Generic “great post” comments.
  • Tagging people purely to manufacture reach.
  • Optimising for follower count while the audience quality declines.
A good network should make the employee's feed more useful before it makes their posts more visible.
04

What should employees actually post?

Start with content Marketing already creates, but do not ask employees to copy the caption. Give them an angle they can credibly own.

Same source. Different humans.

The asset can stay the same. The reason for sharing it should change. That is the difference between employee distribution and corporate syndication.

SOURCECustomer story:
Acme cuts onboarding time by 34%
One company asset
CEO“The lesson here isn't the 34%...”

Talks about the strategic change behind the outcome.

SALES“A question I hear every week...”

Connects the result to a real buyer objection.

CUSTOMER SUCCESS“The part I'm proudest of...”

Explains the work that happened after the deal was signed.

PRODUCT“We nearly solved this the wrong way...”

Shares the product decision that produced the outcome.

THE TESTIf you removed the employee's name, could you still tell who wrote it? If not, it probably isn't personalised enough.
06

Write posts people actually want to read.

There is no magic algorithm formula worth building your strategy around. Focus on clarity, credibility and usefulness. The simplest rule is still the best one: write like you talk.

LINKEDIN POST

We nearly built the wrong feature.

Three customers asked for the same thing.

We assumed that meant they wanted the same solution.

They didn't.

The useful question turned out to be: what are you trying to stop doing?

That changed the entire brief.

What question has changed the way your team solves a problem?

01Open with a reason to continue.

A clear observation, opinion, question or story is enough.

02Keep one main idea.

A post is easier to remember when it is about one thing.

03Use short paragraphs.

White space makes dense thinking easier to read on mobile.

04Sound like the person.

Keep their vocabulary, humour, certainty and level of detail.

05Finish naturally.

Use a conclusion, prompt or CTA when it genuinely fits.

POSTText

Best for a point of view, story or lesson.

TILEBranded creative

Useful when a visual makes the idea easier to notice or remember.

VIDEOHuman explanation

Best when the employee's face, voice or demonstration adds value.

DOCUMENTTeach something

Useful for frameworks, step-by-step ideas and visual education.

07

Build a rhythm people can actually sustain.

The old playbook recommended three posts a week as a starting rhythm. The number matters less than the habit. Two useful posts every week for six months beats a burst of daily posting followed by silence.

Your best content shouldn't die after launch week.

Most teams think in campaigns. Distribution works better when you also think in content lives. A useful asset can be rewritten for another role, reformatted for another feed and resurfaced for another moment.

CREATEDISTRIBUTEREPURPOSERESURFACEDISTRIBUTE AGAIN

This is the operating principle behind Ripply's automatic team Vaults: useful approved content should keep moving instead of disappearing into a folder.

09

Marketing provides guardrails. Employees keep the voice.

Employee advocacy fails when people feel like publishing endpoints. A good programme makes participation easier while preserving choice.

MARKETING OWNS
  • Approved content sources
  • Brand and legal guardrails
  • Campaign priorities
  • Creative templates
  • Measurement and reporting
EMPLOYEE OWNS
  • Their point of view
  • The final edit
  • Whether to post
  • Their personal topics
  • Their relationship with the audience
“The goal isn't to make employees sound more like Marketing. It's to help Marketing make useful content easier for employees to make their own.”
10

Measure distribution, not vanity.

Likes and comments can help you understand what resonated, but they are not the end goal. Build a measurement chain that connects employee activity to owned traffic and business outcomes.

01ParticipationWho is actually active?
02Posts sharedHow much useful distribution happened?
